In December 2023, Vidya and Andy took a trip to India (Delhi and Hyderabad) to put on a workshop and individualized consulting program to support multiple private schools and agencies. These schools are attempting to break ground in one of the heaviest stigmatized topics. Mental health and developmental disabilities. Kids and Family Counseling was asked to provide teaching, training, and consultation on establishing a foundation for supporting and advancing the work of the amaing grassroots organizations supporting neurodiverse learners.
Out first experience delivering such a training was eye opening and inspiring to say the least. But we're excited to share that we have been invited back for another round of training and support, not just in Delhi and Hyderabad, but other states throughout India! How exciting.
KAFC is dedicated to true cultural competence, and identifying ways to bridge the services to meet the indivdual and cultural needs of our communities here in the PNW. In addition to on-going collaboartion, KAFC will be utilizing research grants to explore new ways to support the integrative learning experience for neurodiverse learners in India. Much of the research on disability services is predicated on the predominant western cultures. However, India holds the highest population on the planet and we figured it would be ignorant to assume that the findings in the US can be transracially and culturally applied elsewhere. So KAFC is taking steps to build the bridge between societies. Wish us luck!
